Giorgio Armani founded his house, Giorgio Armani S.p.A., in 1975 in Milan together with Sergio Galeotti. Six years later, in 1981, he introduced Emporio Armani as his second line: the same silhouettes and the same fabric quality as the main label, but designed for a younger audience and at a more accessible price. Along with Giorgio Armani, it is one of the two ready-to-wear lines the designer develops in person. Its emblem is a stylised eagle, with the letters G and A between two horizontal bands like wings; according to Armani himself, the image came about spontaneously while he was on the phone with Galeotti about the urgent need to choose a logo. Today that eagle defines the collection: it appears embroidered, in jacquard and in relief on polo shirts, t-shirts and sweatshirts.
