Fashion made from waste: Ecoalf's reason to exist
Javier Goyeneche founded Ecoalf in 2009 thinking about the world he would leave his children: the name joins "eco" with the first letters of Alfredo and Álvaro. His starting point was that fashion is one of the most polluting industries and that tweaking details was not enough; the whole model had to be rethought. From there comes its signature, the Ocean Yarn thread, a polyester made from plastic recovered from the seabed by 1,140 fishing boats through the Upcycling the Oceans foundation, which works with fishermen as partners in seven countries. The brand also produces with recycled coffee grounds, which provide UV protection and quick drying, and with recycled tyre rubber in its footwear. Certified as a B Corp since 2018, Ecoalf has recycled 44 million plastic bottles to create garments that are indistinguishable from new ones in quality or design.
