Founded in 1978 in Molvena, Italy, by Renzo Rosso together with Adriano Goldschmied, Diesel made denim its home ground: in the early 1990s it gave jeans back their workwear feel with the worn, distressed treatments that are now its signature. From worn denim to Successful Living
Diesel was born in 1978 in Molvena, in Italy's Veneto region, thanks to Renzo Rosso, who had been sewing jeans since the age of fifteen on his mother's machine and had worked at the Moltex factory before launching the brand with Adriano Goldschmied. In 1985 Rosso took full control. His idea was to treat denim as a living material: in the early 1990s he bet on the worn, torn and aged look that became the house's DNA. From 1991, the "Successful Living" campaigns set its ironic, provocative tone. In 2002 Diesel joined the OTB group.
